Employment Self-Service (ESS) Utumishi portal, also known as the Watumishi portal, is a digital tool to improve the (efficiency) productivity of the public sector. The government of the United Republic of Tanzania introduced the ESS Utumishi portal to facilitate the public servants of Tanzania as a part of their Tanzania e-Government strategy 2013-2018.

The Watumishi portal facilitates the public servants about Employment details like PEPMIS, download salary slips, e-Loan, service records, Transfer or Job Exchange in  Tanzania, application for job leave (regular, vacation, or annual), tax and pension.

Through the Utumishi portal, managers and supervisors can assign job-related tasks to employees and track their progress, while employees can check and update their tasks, progress and performance record.

What is ESS Utumishi?

The ESS Utumishi portal is a digital replacement of paperwork in the public sector of Tanzania. The government of the United Republic of Tanzania’s mission is to digitize the public sector to facilitate the servants. To accomplish this mission, they launched “Tanzania e-Government Strategy 2013-2018” and  “President’s Office of Public Service Management and Good Governance” (PO-PSMGG) initiated “ESS Utumishi” under the “Public Service Human Resource Information System” (PSHRIS).

How to Register on ESS Utumishi Portal?

Step 1: Visit Official Website

If you are a public servant of the United Republic of Tanzania and want to use the Utumishi portal, you have to register yourself by following the below-mentioned steps:

Step 2: Go to Registration Section

  • On the homepage of the portal, you will see “click here to register” at the bottom of the “username” and “password” section.
  • Registration Form: As you click the button, it will open the registration form for you to fill in the information.

To fill the form, you need to provide your details according to the following instructions:

  • Check Number: Write your unique check number in the “check number” box.
  • National ID: Write your national ID consisting of 20 digits and regional code for verification in the “National ID” box.
  • Email Address: Write your personal and valid email in the “Email Address” box. 
  • Confirm Email: Write the Email Address in the “Confirm Email” box.

You will receive all of your information and verification codes at this email address, so Write your valid email. 

NOTE: Later you can change your email address in Utumishi Portal in case of any inconvenience.

Step 4: Sign Up your Account

  • Sign Up: After completing and reviewing the registration form Submit your application by clicking on “Sign Up”. Now, you will get an email with a confirmation link.

  • Confirmation Link: Check your confirmation link in the Email box and confirm your registration by clicking on it.
